Now your child's interests drive the curriculum!!  Children choose a topic to explore, then they study and create to advance their learning while their teachers integrate language, math, science, social studies, and the arts.  This class recently did a study on light.  They put different objects on black paper and set them in the sun.  When they removed the objects a few days later they focused on the shadows left on the paper by the sun.  The children were intensely interested and continued this study for many weeks.  Visual arts are an integral part of our Reggio method of teaching.  The visual arts are used as a medium to visualize the growth in children's learning.  Twice a week an Art Teacher comes in to work onTwigs special art projects that are related to their studies.  Our Language Literacy Component is another very important element in this classroom.  They work on Joint Writing time, Representational Drawing, and Repetitive Books.  Joint Writing time is done every morning with their teacher.  The teachers draw a picture of something the children will do that day and they guess what that object is.  After the children have correctly identified the daily project the teacher and child sound out the sentence starting Today We Will... and ending with a period.  These projects are hung in the room to showcase their work before being sent home to the parents.  Our "Today We" is a photographic newsletter and a great way for you to follow your child's progress daily.

The children used the light table to further study how light looks when a colored object is placed in it's path.
