Acorns

Our Acorn room is made up of our toddlers friends.

When your child gets more mobile, they will join our toddler room.  A strong emphasis on language development and social skills is encouraged and nurtured.  Morning Meeting Time is introduced to the children when they reach this age group.  Every morning the children sit down with the teachers and read age appropriate books, sing songs, work on their colors and shapes, and work on their sign language.  Sign language is large part of our school.  TheAcorns language of signing helps promote healthy communication skills between teachers and children regardless of cultural differences.  Everyday they learn a sign pertaining to the project work they are focusing on and review the signs that they have already learned.  Teachers sign to the children all day long.  Curriculum at A+ Children's Academy is child based.  Our teachers observe the children and their interests and plan out project work for them to get engaged in.  The language of visual arts is introduced at this age.  Visual arts encourages observation and focus, while developing fine motor skills.  The Language Literacy Component starts being integrated with this classroom.  Everyday they engage in journal time where they learn to use a pencil instead of markers and crayons.  Our "Today We" is a photographic newsletter that you recieve daily so you can watch your child's growth and development.

During the fall season the children studied corn.  They learned how to shuck the corn, rolled it in paint, and then rolled it on paper to see the design the corn would make.

AcornsThe Acorns did a study on plants, specifically sunflowers, so they grew their own sunflowers andAcorns studied as many aspects of the sunflower as they could.  They also painted with the different pieces of the sunflowers so they could see what kind of prints each part would make.
